The Evolution of the Goose: From where to here?
The Cackling Goose Market has changed a great deal since August 2007 while holding true to the philosophy that quality natural healthy ethically and environmentally responsible products are best. Our history reflects this. Mark & Amanda returned to Canada from Japan to settle in Southeastern New Brunswick in 2005 and started a small import company, Farther East Asian Imports, to bring fairly traded and ethically responsible unique imports to Canada from the Asian countries where they had lived and visited. Meanwhile Amanda was using recipes she had developed years earlier to create and sell healthy natural bath and body products at Local Markets in the area. In 2007, when the opportunity arose to purchase the building in Sackville, they moved to establish the current location of what is now The Cackling Goose Market. Located in downtown Sackville and directly adjacent to the Mount Allison University campus, it was an excellent opportunity. This store initially combined their love of good food with their philosophy on healthy and ethical living. When they discovered that Amanda and their two children had to follow a strict Gluten-Free diet, they realized the pressing need for a place that not only acknowledged but also welcomed an awareness of food sensitivities and health consciousness. This created a shift in the business that led to a large renovation during the summer and fall of 2011 to create New Brunswick’s only exclusively Gluten-Free Bakery Café.
This re-invention and renovation, with the improved appearance and functionality the new Cackling Goose Market Gluten-Free Bakery Café, has brought waves of new people while still supporting our loyal customer base. Centrally located in the Maritimes, Sackville has been an excellent town in which to do business and provide products and services to a larger area. The Cackling Goose Market has seen a huge increase in the number of out-of-town customers and customers who travel greater distances intent on visiting our establishment.
Moving forward, our goal is to consolidate our successful transition to Gluten-Free Bakery Café and focus on maintaining our current customer base while continuing to grow awareness of what we have to offer.
